Jackets take two straight, including Horn in three
Dana Waddle’s team is 3–11 after a brutal tournament stretch. The last two results finally go the other way.

Denison volleyball walked out of Thursday night with a 2–1 win over Mesquite Horn and a two-match winning streak. The Jackets are 3–11 overall, 0–1 in district, after a month of tournament brackets that did not give them much oxygen.
The first win of the year was 2–0 over Bridgeport on Aug. 14. The second was 2–0 against South Hills of Fort Worth on Aug. 22. Horn, in three sets on Aug. 27, is the first time this group has stacked results.
Head coach Dana Waddle, who is also an assistant athletic director, has Gayle Bigelow and Jana Kelly on the bench with her. District play is already underway: Melissa took Denison 3–0 on Aug. 18. McKinney North is next on the district slate, Tuesday after Labor Day at the DHS gym.
The Forney tournament runs through the weekend. Then the district grind — Sherman, Greenville, Lovejoy, Anna, Celina — starts in earnest next week. Three wins does not look like a headline in September. After 11 losses, it is the first thing worth putting in the paper.
